Birds of prey as well as nuisance birds, such as pigeons, grackles, sparrows and many more, can be a common problem in areas such as factories, airports and grocery stores. These facilities can unintentionally attract these birds due to their location and design. Birds of prey including hawks and owls, may mistake these facilities for hunting grounds, or they may be drawn in by the presence of other prey animals, such as rodents. Once inside, these birds can become disoriented and have difficulty finding their way out, leading to the need for rescue and relocation. Nuisance birds are often attracted to food waste and the light and warmth of the store. Once inside, these birds can cause a variety of issues such as damaging equipment, contaminating food products, and creating unsanitary conditions. Bird droppings can also be a health hazard, potentially carrying diseases and causing slips and falls.
